Brian Tevlin’s 2026 SSDM Stats: 13 Points, 9 Caused Turnovers

Shane McAllister · 2 min read

Brian Tevlin’s 2026 PLL stats: 13 points, nine caused turnovers and 25 ground balls, with the Zach Currier caveat behind his SSDM rankings.

Brian Tevlin recorded 13 points, nine caused turnovers and 25 ground balls in 12 regular-season games for the California Redwoods in 2026. He also won the PLL’s George Boiardi Hard Hat SSDM Award, recognizing the league’s best short-stick defensive midfielder. His positional rankings need one qualification: the PLL lists Zach Currier as an SSDM, although Currier won Midfielder of the Year. (Official player stats; PLL award profile)

Tevlin’s points calculation is straightforward: 7 + (2 × 0) + 6 = 13 points, weighting two-point goals twice and adding assists. His seven goals on 16 shots produce a 43.75% shooting rate, displayed by the PLL as 43.8%.

Using his 12 appearances as the denominator, he averaged 0.75 caused turnovers, 2.08 ground balls and 1.08 points per game. Those are calculated appearance-based rates, not measures adjusted for playing time or defensive possessions. Did Tevlin lead all SSDMs?

He tied for the lead in points and caused turnovers under the PLL’s listed positions; he did not lead that group in ground balls. The league’s 2026 SSDM leaderboard shows Currier with 13 points, nine caused turnovers and 68 ground balls, alongside Tevlin’s 13, nine and 25. (PLL positional leaderboard)

That explains the different wording in two official season-end reports:

  • The September 18 awards report describes Tevlin’s 13 points and nine caused turnovers as tied for the most among SSDMs.
  • The September 24 Tevlin profile says he led the position in caused turnovers and ground balls excluding Currier, explicitly noting Currier’s SSDM listing and Midfielder of the Year award.

Both descriptions preserve an important distinction between a statistical position label and an award category. “Tevlin led SSDMs in ground balls” is therefore incomplete without the Currier exclusion. (Awards report; Tevlin profile)

What made the season a career best?

The PLL identifies Tevlin’s seven goals, six assists and 13 points as career highs. In its award profile, Tevlin credited added transition and offensive contributions for helping distinguish his season, while defensive coordinator Chris Collins emphasized cover defense, leadership and the ability to play at both ends.
